It’s a dry afternoon and the sun is scorching when we get down at Maharaja Institute of Technology; what’s welcoming are the two huge banners of E-Week reading “celebrate the joy of entrepreneurship” hanging from the main building of the college. We walk in to the registration desk and meet a few E-Leaders, they tell us about events they are conducting such as the public awareness on entrepreneurship event in a local mall where they roped in two popular singers to attract the masses.
The event ongoing is the self-defense session for women, which is organized as a part of women empowerment regime. One of the E-Leaders volunteers to be the attacker and the martial arts expert deftly shows effective moves to block, avoid and resist such attacks. Many moves from various angles and position are shown, many instances are also considered like attack with hands, knives, stalking and the like. The event happens in the open space of the college canteen and so easily attracts a huge gathering. There are shouts and claps when a particularly neat move is showed where the attacker hits the ground while trying to launch an assault.
eMIT is the E-Cell of MIT which has around 30 odd members with about 10 E Leaders. They have taken up social causes and are holding events such as the solar street lamp rally, a visit to a blind school, skit on mobilization of youth among many others.
